The winner of the 2016 Antonín Dvořák International Singing Competition in Karlovy Vary will conclude her doctoral studies at HAMU this year with a concert that will take place on December 8, 2019 from 6 p.m. in the Martinů Hall at Malostranské náměstí 13 in Prague.

During the first half of the evening, soprano Lucie Kaňková will first portray the character of Violetta Valéry in a cross-section of the entire Verdi opera La Traviata. Tenor Daniel Matoušek will perform as Alfredo and baritone Martin Bárta as Germont. In the second half, the soprano will sing, for example, the spectacular aria from Bernstein’s Cunegonda “Glitter and be gay” or she will perform embody the role of Ariadne from Bohuslav Martinů’s opera Ariadne.

The singer chose passages from Verdi’s La Traviata quite deliberately: “I am preparing for a full role at the Silesian Theatre Opava, where I will transform into Violetta for the first time on January 10, 2020, so I have prepared such a taster for the Prague audience. It is, of course, a beautiful and multi-layered character that is the dream of every soprano.” Lucie Kaňková and her guests will be accompanied on the piano by Stanislav Bogunia.

In the 2019/20 season, Lucie performed the role of Ännchen in C. M. von Weber’s The Magician at the Silesian Theatre Opava. Prague audiences can see her in this production on January 7, 2019, when the Silesian Theatre Opava will be guesting with her on the stage of the Estates Theatre. Lucie Kaňková is also preparing for the role of Susanna in W. A. ​​Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro. She will also perform in the title role of Poppaea in Monteverdi’s opera The Coronation of Poppaea at the Theatre in Pilsen.

She is currently working on her singing development with Prof. Barbara Locher and the legendary Gabriela Beňačková.
