Soprano Lucie Kaňková won first prize in the Nomea online singing competition, organized from Naples, on Saturday. 230 young opera singers applied for it. The Czech performer was the best of ten finalists from South Korea, South Africa, Italy, Germany, Russia, Ukraine, the USA and Mongolia. Other prizes were awarded to Nikita Ivasechko, Francesca Di Sauro, Nombulelo Yende, Carolina López Moreno and Sejin Park, while honorable mentions went to Alina Nikolajeva, Kyounghan Seo, Logan Tanner and Ochirsaikhan Erdenee. The winners’ concert is expected to take place later this year in the historic building of the Naples Conservatory. The laureates are also expected to perform at the Mimas music festival on the island of Procida near Naples, which has been declared the Italian capital of culture.
