“This time, the opportunity went to Lucie Kaňková. She embraced the role of Lucia with great verve. As a coloratura soprano, she is undoubtedly an exceptionally talented soloist with impressive technical command and a mastery of vocal declamation. She is known for roles such as Mozart’s Queen of the Night in *The Magic Flute*, Verdi’s Gilda in *Rigoletto*, and Violetta in *La traviata*. Donizetti’s Lucia is a challenging role, requiring a blend of gentle, lyrical singing that must build to the intense emotional force with which she defies the hopeless situation resulting from her forced marriage—culminating, above all, in the great mad scene. Lucie Kaňková paced herself well and successfully encompassed all these layers of expression. In the extensive mad scene, she even opted for challenging cadenzas, supported by her partner, flautist Václav Lenc.”
