The young Czech soprano won the role in Mozart’s famous opera The Magic Flute after winning a singing competition organized by the festival.
“In 2019, I won the Opernspiele Munot casting competition and was engaged to play the role of the Queen of the Night, but due to Covid restrictions, the production was postponed until this year,” says Lucie Kaňková, who also studied singing in Switzerland and eventually settled down.
The premiere of The Magic Flute takes place on August 18 in the Swiss city of Schaffhausen. The performances take place in the Munot fortress under the open sky. Marcelo Buscaino, a Brazilian theater director with extensive international experience, is directing the production, while Wiktor Bockmann, a German-Polish conductor and festival director, is musically directing the production. The role of the Narrator is played by the popular German film and television actor Bernhard Bettermann.
For Lucie Kaňková, this is another production of Mozart’s The Magic Flute, in addition to performing in this role at the Prague Estates Theatre. After recent successes as an understudy in the role of Gilda at the opera houses in Liège, Belgium, and at the State Opera in Prague in the Czech Republic, Lucie Kaňková will also perform at the Baroque Opera Festival in Znojmo in July 2022 in the coloratura role of Raffaelle in Haydn’s opera The Return of Tobias.
She is also preparing to debut in the role of Violetta Valéry in Verdi’s opera La traviata ve Státní opeře v Praze on September 3rd.
